A special entrepreneur earns income and confidence from poultry farming


30-year-old Mr Lipin K Abraham, a resident of Kozhenchery taluk in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala State suffers from Intellectual disability. During the year 2012, he joined MCRD, Navajyothi School at Thelliyoor, which is just 500 metres away from the KVK campus. After joining Navajyothi School, he developed an interest in agriculture. He has a 45 % disability, hence come under the moderate category of intellectual disability. The agriculture activity based soft skills could provide them with ample scope for self-employment opportunity. Skill development training by KVK motivated Lipin to initiate poultry farming at home. He now earns his income from his enterprise for the first time in his life solely from poultry farming. At present, he has 45 poultry birds, which fetch him an average of Rs. 140/day. At present, he is earning Rs. 30,800 solely from Poultry farming per year. He is confident and also develops his intellectual capabilities to be successful in life. He wants to make poultry farming his permanent livelihood and wish to expand his enterprise with his savings.
